WEEKEND DIGEST : NAMASTE WAHALA - MOVIE REVIEW

WARNING : This is a personal review. You may feel differently after watching this movie. Please proceed with caution!!! Hehehehehehe! Did I just type that warning? Never mind, that was me trying to be serious. Anyway, so initially, I was enthusiastic about watching this movie. Then I changed my mind. Wanna know why? The ratings on Twitter..... Hellurrrrr!!!!! (In Madea's voice). Did I just say Twitter? Well, yeah, Twitter. So as I was saying, the reviews on Twitter were not encouraging at all. My friends hated the movie. Someone rated it 0 out of a 5.  No way!!! Heck yeah!!!!! My friends are intellectuals. That's not to say that I'm not one after reading my review. :-) Some other people felt like it was a great feel good movie and loved it.  So, you can imagine my expectations of the movie was very low. I delayed watching it for two months just because....... (Fill in the blanks) Namaste Wahala is a romantic comedy that stars Nollywood actors like Richard Mofe-Damijo, Joke ...

WEEKEND DIGEST : GRIEF

Tojo stared at the busy streets of Manhattan from his 30th-floor apartment at Battery Park. It was one of those days where he had decided to call off work. He had woken up with a migraine and had decided the best thing was to get some rest. His work as an Investment Banker in one of the best banks in the world, Goldman Sachs, was demanding.  He had been sleeping all day, only waking up at intervals. He picked up the TV remote control from the table and flipped through the channels on cable. Bad Boys II was showing on Showtime. “Crazy dudes,” He said, chuckling. He loved the combination of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence acting in a movie. The doorbell rang and he groaned, wondering who was at the door. Probably the delivery guy who was dropping off a package. The only other person who knew that he was at home was his cousin, Adeoti. Adeoti was a freelance UX designer who had plenty of time on his hands. Too much time, in his opinion. The guy had dated women from every co...

Hello! It's been a minute

Dear Reader, It's been many months since I last shared a post here. Did I tell you that I have missed writing on this blog? So what have you been up to since I've been away? Did you get married, move to a new city, take up a new job, start a new career? Or maybe you decided to focus on family instead? You'll agree it's been a challenging time with having to deal with the pandemic. There's been so many lives lost, bad news here and there...…. The earth has been in a perpetual state of convulsion. Funny how a song just popped into my mind now, "If you're still alive and breathing, praise the Lord! Let everything, let everything praise the Lord...…." Regardless of what's been happening on earth or around you, if you are reading this piece, you are alive. So take a minute to thank God. Did you write down any goals for this year or is the plan just to be alive? If you wrote some goals down, are you making progress towards them? So I had a ...

Pelumi's Memoirs - 49

Would I believe you when you say Your hand will guide my every way? Will I receive the words you say Every moment of every day? Well, I will walk by faith Even when I cannot see Because this broken road Prepares your will for me -Jeremy Camp **** Pelumi moved around the house, scrubbing the floors, and cleaning the kitchen counter. Itoro was also busy with other house chores. Saturday was their day for deep cleaning the house. “Itoro, you know, I still cannot believe the fact that I got such a delicious job offer without even applying.” “FJ has been wonderful,” Itoro replied. “I know,” Pelumi muttered. “Sometimes I wonder what the catch is. Will he turn back at some point to demand something from me? I don’t think they did any background checks. It seems the usual protocols were skipped because FJ recommended me for the position.” “Something like what?” Itoro asked. “Well, you know……Well.” “Pelumi, stop stuttering. You mean he’ll come back to demand some...

Pelumi's Memoirs - 47

Well, if friends with their fancy persuasion Don't admit that it's part of a scheme Then I can't help but have my suspicions Cause I ain't quite as dumb as I seem And you said you was never intending To break up our scene in this way But there ain't any use in pretending It could happen to us any day -  Ace, 1975 **** “This is quite serious,” Itoro said, shifting in her seat. Pelumi had been crying since she got home that evening.  “You are going to fall sick if you keep crying like this.” Itoro reprimanded. “They are still investigating so let us remain positive. I'm sure that your name will be cleared.” “Me, steal 25 million Naira from a company? What would I do with all that money? They said the money was transferred to a corporate account in my mother's name. Itoro how?” Pelumi pulled a tissue from the box that Itoro had placed beside her to wipe her running nose.  Her cell phone rang in that instant. She looked at the screen and saw it was her...
