WEEKEND DIGEST : NAMASTE WAHALA - MOVIE REVIEW

WARNING :

This is a personal review. You may feel differently after watching this movie. Please proceed with caution!!!

Hehehehehehe! Did I just type that warning? Never mind, that was me trying to be serious.

Anyway, so initially, I was enthusiastic about watching this movie. Then I changed my mind. Wanna know why? The ratings on Twitter.....

Hellurrrrr!!!!! (In Madea's voice).

Did I just say Twitter?

Well, yeah, Twitter. So as I was saying, the reviews on Twitter were not encouraging at all. My friends hated the movie. Someone rated it 0 out of a 5.

No way!!!

Heck yeah!!!!!

My friends are intellectuals. That's not to say that I'm not one after reading my review. :-)

Some other people felt like it was a great feel good movie and loved it.

So, you can imagine my expectations of the movie was very low. I delayed watching it for two months just because....... (Fill in the blanks)

Namaste Wahala is a romantic comedy that stars Nollywood actors like Richard Mofe-Damijo, Joke Silva, Ini Dinma-Okojie, Imoh Eboh, Osas Ighodaro, Ibrahim Suleiman, Ruslaan Mumtaz, Anee Icha and others.

Hamisha Daryani Ahuja directed this movie.

I loved seeing Koye Kekere Ekun display his theatrics. It's my first time seeing him act in a movie.

Okay, so here's the story.....

Indian guy - Raj  played by Ruslaan Mumtaz meets Nigerian girl - Didi ( Ini Dinma-Okojie) and they become caught up in an interracial war between their parents. The question is to be or not to be?

I thought Didi and Raj's  initial meeting at the beach was a bit cheesy. Maybe a better word would be unrealistic. At that point, I was getting ready to reach for the remote and tune off. I waited a little bit and that's when I began to enjoy the movie.

The cinematography for this movie is great. Great lighting and picture quality except for the part where it looked like Didi's face was being transformed into that of some cartoon character or super hero. Hehehehe. Not sure what the deal was with that part where she was having an argument with Raj.

One of the turnoffs for me was the music and dance in the movie. ( I'm not a fan of musicals in movies). The good thing however is that it's not a long musical like you'd find in typical Bollywood movies.

Raj and Didi fell in love pretty quickly. I found that comical. Do people still fall head over heels in love within the twinkle of an eyes these days?

Another thumbs down for me is Didi's father- RMD's treatment of Raj when she invited him to her home to introduce him to them.

Broda Shaggi - I wasn't expecting to see him in the movie. He acted the part of the typical frustrated lagos driver although I thought that he could have been less aggressive. Yellow cab drivers tend to be a lot cooler than bus drivers in Lagos.

I found it difficult to figure out if Didi is a lawyer or not since Preemo, acted by Osas Ighodaro kept saying she wasn't a real lawyer. At no time did Didi try to correct that notion though she did a good job getting justice for the girl who'd been raped.

My rating for this movie is a 3 out of a 5. Sssssshhhhhh.... don't let my friends hear that I said so.

It's a Rom Com so just watch it with a light heart. Definitely not an action thriller so nothing to overly analyze here.

Have you seen this movie? What did you think? Would you see it again?

It's on Netflix by the way.

Okay, got to go now......

Cheers to the weekend!!!!!!!!!!

BIBI - CHAPTER 17

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange was happening to you Several months later….. **** Pere removed his glasses and rubbed his aching eyes. He thought about Nneoma. It had been months since he had seen her. He had reached out to her and tried to see her, but she had refused to pick up his calls. Eventually, she blocked his number, and he saw red. He had had enough. Today, he decided to go to her office to see her. A thousand thoughts crossed his mind. What if she wasn’t at the office? What if she had traveled? “Kade, I’ll see you tomorrow.” He said to their office assistant and headed out. “I’m here to see Ms. Nneoma Odili.” He said to the receptionist. “Is she expecting you?” “No.” He replied curtly. “What is your name?” The lady asked. “Pere is my name.” He answered. “She’s not at her desk.” The receptionist said to him after calling Nneoma's secretary. “Wow! But do you know if she’s in the office today?”

A little Update From Me

Hello there!! Happy New Year!!!  I say Happy New Year because I've been away from this blog for so long. :-(  I can't get past the fact that it was the new year just a few months ago. I remember going to church for the crossover service into the new year. It was my first in-person crossover service in 7 years. If you don't know what a crossover service is, ask any Nigerian. :-) 2023 was a few hours away, and my mind ran over the events in 2022. I thought about my wins, like moving to a new state, settling in, getting a job promotion, etc. I thought about how I got sick and felt like life was leaving me to being well again. People went forward to share their testimonies, and I felt I was supposed to be out there proclaiming God's goodness to me. "I'm sorry, Lord," I muttered. "Thank you for everything." A few hours later, everyone said "Happy New Year" with glee and excitement. "2023... Please be good to me." I th

BIBI - CHAPTER 16

I t was a rainy Monday morning, and Lara was frustrated by all the traffic. That was one thing she missed about London. Fast and reliable transportation that got you where you were going without hassles. She was cranky by the time she arrived at the office that morning. It didn’t also help that she didn’t have a good night’s sleep. She placed her bag under her desk and sighed. Kofo, her admin assistant, walked up to her. “Good morning, madam. Your first meeting with the people from Duchess Group is in forty minutes.” Lara squinted and then nodded. She hadn’t yet turned on her computer. “Thanks, Kofo. Yes, I know.” “Can I get you anything?” “Yes, please. My regular morning fix.” Lara smiled. “Okay, I’ll be right back,” Kofo replied. She liked her new assistant a lot. In the short time since she had known her, Kofo had proven to be reliable. She honestly didn’t know what she would do without her these days. After getting her morning fix, a cup of coffee, and egg sandwiches,
