DIARIES OF A NEW YORKER 8

I sat at the dining table putting some of the wedding lists together. Planning a Nigerian Wedding was no little task. The halls around Victoria Island were as expensive as hell! Left to me, I’d be cool with a white wedding somewhere in the country side in the U.S. It would be a low key, simple and classy wedding. But trust my family! My parents would hear of no such thing. The first daughter of Toritseju and Tara Ikomi wasn’t going to have no low key wedding. My father didn’t even want to hear about it. The thought was dismissed the first day I laid it on the table. Aunty Sumbo had been livid when she had heard. Aduke, no way!!! You are going to have a huge society wedding and that’s that! My mother had agreed with aunty Sumbo instantly. Aduke Oritsetimeyin Ikomi!!! Aduke oooo!!!! The sound of two ladies screaming my name made me stop what I was doing. It had to be those cousins of mine. Look at you Lape!!!!! I hugged my big cousin. Lape, how did you get so skinny??? O

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!!!

Thank you the moderator..... First of all, who is a mother? A mother is someone who knows our needs, has a genuine interest in all that we do, and is someone who guides and inspires. She is the captain of the ship which brought us to life. In our society today, we have women of timber and caliber, women of proven integrity, women of enviable repute and status............. My opening paragraph is a recollection of a debate  I participated in when I was 10 years old. I remember how my primary 6 teacher or what you would call grade 6 teacher, Mr Joseph, would write out debates for us, and ask us to go and memorize it. I would stand to rehearse in front of my mother because debates were a big deal for me. At age ten, I watched myself on NTA 2 Channel Five debating. Loool! The years have sure gone by. Anyway, this isn't about me. It's about Mothers! It's Mothers' Day!! A woman is God's last creation. She's meant to be loved, cherished and adored. To al
