BIBI - CHAPTER 5

Bibi walked into her manager's office. It was a lovely Thursday afternoon. She had recovered completely and was feeling great. She was excited about working on a new project and helping to coordinate the volunteer event with Tyndale Bank.  She showed her manager her presentation slides.  “Well done, Bibi.” Sade Adeyemo articulated, clearly impressed with the presentation Bibi had just shown her. “I love your ideas. You're such a creative genius. That's why you're one of our top creative directors here anyway.” “So, from a budget perspective, do you know how much we need to invest into this project?” “Yes,” Bibi replied, sitting across from her manager. She scrolled through her laptop. “I worked with Mr Gboyega in the finance department. We are looking at a total sum of Five million Naira.” “Hmmm.” Sade swung her chair around. “Can we work with two million Naira instead? You know restrictions have been placed on company expenses now.” “Sure thing,” Bibi r

BIBI - CHAPTER 4

Bade stared at Bibi who was snoring softly on the hospital bed. The doctors were carrying out tests to determine the cause of her fainting. When he got the call from her office earlier in the day, the news had left him with a bead of sweat forming around his head. He walked to the window and stared at the streets of Lagos Island. He gasped when it looked like one of the motorcycles popularly called ‘Okada’ was going to hit an old woman who was standing at the bus station. Thankfully, she managed to jump back just a few seconds before the motorcycle rammed into her. Lagos Na Wa! He thought. His phone suddenly vibrated in his pocket. He was not used to putting it in ringing mode due to disturbances when he was at work. Bibi’s mother was calling. His mum must have broken the news to her. He took another glance at Bibi and walked out of the room. He picked the call when he was in the hospital hallway. “Oyebade, how is my daughter?” She asked rapidly. Ana waited with bated breath for Bade’

BIBI - CHAPTER 3

“Doesn't something smell good around here?" Bade said to Bibi holding her around the waist while they walked into his parents’ home after Church service on Sunday. "Something does smell good, and I'm famished," Bibi replied. "Look who just arrived!" Ireti Fernandez rose to hug her son and his wife. At 62 years, people said she was good looking and had refused to age. God had been good to her and her family. She could not deny that fact. "Uncle, good evening sir," Bade bowed to greet his father’s friend, Uncle Bode. In Nigeria, every man who was older than you was an ‘Uncle’.  Uncle Bode had been his father's friend for as long as he could remember. "Oyebade Fernandez, the son of the Lion himself. How are we?" Bibi chuckled where she stood watching the exchange between them. She curtsied to greet Uncle Bode when he met her gaze. "We are very well.”  Bade answered. "Pele, Omo daada!  Oyebade, where did you find an ange

BIBI - CHAPTER 2

Perelayefa Brisibe clenched and unclenched his fists in anger. Adesua was making him mad. “Oh please, Pere! Get over yourself! The world does not revolve around you.” Adesua hissed at her husband of five years. “I can damn well go wherever I please!” Pere squinted and turned to look at her. “Are you moving mad?” His voice rose by an octave as anger overtook his senses. “I’m not but you’ve lost the right to tell me where to go and where not to go.” She clapped her hands and sneered. “A man that cannot provide for his family. Is that one a man? You call yourself an entrepreneur! Entrepreneur my foot!  Entrepreneur that cannot fend for his family! Is that one even a man?” When the back of his hand suddenly contacted her face, Pere realized what he had done. He had never beaten Adesua. He had never laid his hands on her. What was he becoming? He moved to touch her. “I’m sorry.” He muttered again and again. “Don’t touch me.” She hissed. “You think you are a man ehn? If you like, beat

BIBI - CHAPTER 1

It was one of those muggy afternoons. Bíbíire Kofoworola Fernandez popularly called 'Bibi' by friends and family stood outside the Sparkles Resort where they had lodged in Accra, Ghana. Bibi stole a look at her handsome husband who was dressed in a nice pair of blue Levi jeans, a mustard-colored Nautica polo shirt and a blue cap. Too many things had been happening in their lives before and after the wedding and so they did not have time to go on a formal honeymoon. This was coupled with the fact that Bade's schedule at work had been hectic. They decided instead, to go on trips during the weekends from time to time. So far, things had worked out well. "Sir, please visit sometime again. It's been a real pleasure having you here". "So that you guys can chop all my money abi?" Bade replied to the resort manager, Mr. Kweku Asari, laughing. Hurling the rest of their bags into the back seat, he held the passenger door while Bibi slid in and reached
