ACCOLADES OH!!!!! ACCOLADES OR ELSE!!!!

It was one of those days where I felt like I'd done so much in the previous months and was feeling a little burned out. I decided to go surfing on the Bella Naija website and stumbled on this headline - "Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie speaks at Amherst College's 197th Commencement and receives Honorary Degree". By the way, the comments section on Bella Naija website gets me cracking up many times. To say it's hilarious would be putting things mildly. I love being a Nigerian. Even in terrible situations, we can still tell jokes that'll crack the ribs.  These were some of the comments I saw : "This woman is marketing herself so well. Once her next book comes out it will surely outsell the others. So many new audiences. See the way she is claiming Honorary Degrees and Awards left right and center". Another said, "That's what I tell people. Not always about what you study but confidence, smartness and a bit of luck or fate...

MOVIE REVIEW - Banana Island Ghost

Banana Island Ghost was written and produced by BB Sasore and directed by Omorinsola Spaine. Executive producers of this hilarious movie include Biola Alabi and Derin Adeyokunnu. Banana Island Ghost was coproduced by Chioma Omeruah, Enyi Omeruah, Tolu Olusoga, Ayo Osunriade, Michael Ugwu and Adenike Adekanbi. The movie stars actors like Chioma Omeruah(Chigul), Bimbo Manuel, Tina Mba, Kemi 'Lala' Akindoju, Akah Nnani, Ozzy Agu, Damilola Adegbite, Ali Nuhu, Makida Moka and Saheed Balogun. I was pleasantly surprised to see Saheed Balogun. I haven't seen him in a movie for some time now, hence my surprise. This is a light hearted kinda movie. Well, we can call it a feel good movie. It's a funny one that'll get you laughing out loud. I liked the action parts towards the end of the movie. The police crew completely cracked me up. Chigul plays the role of a prisoner in Banana Island who gets released. A man dies in a ghastly car accident and at ...

Mo Abudu : Female Power

Behold the face of a woman who is currently changing the face of Nigerian Media and Entertainment. I watched one of the most recent Ebony Life TV movies a couple of weeks ago and I loved what I saw. To date, I still know people who tell me they cannot watch Nigerian movies. They are predictable, overly dramatic.....The list goes on. From the days of Nneka The Pretty Serpent, I have watched Nollywood bloom and blossom. People like Mo Abudu who are making things happen in Nigerian entertainment make my heart do some dancing.  Mo Abudu became a household name in the 2000s with her TV talk show "Moments with Mo," which ran for almost a decade before it became "Moments' .  The media mogul kicked off "Moments with Mo" with an interview with Prof Wole Soyinka. During that time, Mo interviewed an impressive list of guests including Hilary Clinton, Good luck Ebele Jonathan, President Muhammadu Buhari, Olusegun Obasanjo, General Ibrahim ...

THEY ARE BACK !!!!!!

They are back!!!! The MR X Family show is a work of RMD Productions Ltd  Ego Boyo and Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) graced the screen together in the early 90s with Checkmate and later in 1996 in the movie, Violated. Does anyone remember Keeping Faith from the early 2000s? That was the last movie in which Ego Boyo featured. It's a real pleasure to know she'll be gracing the screen again after a long hiatus. I know she's been doing a lot of stuff  behind the scenes in creative arts as the owner of Temple Productions, Nigeria. Mr X Family Show is a series that'll be airing on DSTV from May 6th. The question on my mind is how can we diasporians get to watch ? :-(  I'm hoping we'll get lucky and be able to watch online.  Ciao!!!

MOVIE REVIEW - THE ROYAL HIBISCUS HOTEL

Hi Folks, It’s been a few weeks or so………. I hope we are running with a vision and keeping our dreams alive. I peeped in on my twitter account on a beautiful spring day and saw a surprise post by Ebony Life TV. The Royal Hibiscus Hotel was on Amazon Prime. Just imagine my excitement. I got to watch the movie for free as an Amazon Prime member. I am expecting this movie to be on Netflix soon just because...... the cinematography is great. The Royal Hibiscus Hotel was shot in London and Nigeria. The movie was directed by Ishaya Bako and produced by Temidayo Abudu. Zainab Balogun and Kenneth Okoli were brilliant in this movie. Rachel Oniga and Jide Kosoko played their part of the typical Nigerian parents fantastically well.  Kemi 'Lala' Akindoju played the role of Chika; the receptionist whose passion was filing her nails. The movie also features actors like Deyemi Okanlawon, OC Ukeje and Akah Nnani. The Royal Hibiscus Hotel is a romantic ...

What happened to the Diaries of a New Yorker??

Hi Guys, For those of you who followed my posts then on the Diaries of a New Yorker, I'm sure you wondered at some point what happened to the story? Yes what happened to the Diaries of a New Yorker? In 2011, I started out writing the story. I came up with a few posts and then life happened. That's not an excuse, I know. Doesn't life happen to everyone at some point? But we need to pick up ourselves and run with the wind. Afterall, to all who are joined to the living, there's hope. I'll tell you what happened to the Diaries of  a New Yorker. :-) Diaries of a New Yorker is being converted into a Novel. I'm not sure how long it'll take to write it since it will be my very First published Novel.  I do hope you'll buy my first book when it's published and encourage your friends and family to purchase the book as well. Until then, you are welcome to check on the progress of the book and encourage me. Cheers, Debbie

SILVER SPOON

Hi Guys, Has anyone caught the Black Panther bug yet? I heard some folks have gone to see the movie like 4 times or more. I'm thinking is the movie that good and head out with the rest of the crew to see it. I finally got to watch it and at certain points, I heard myself screaming at the movie theater. Is the movie that great? My answer - go see for yourself and you can be a judge of that. Anyway, I think this was the second movie I've seen within a year after Hidden Figures where many of us clapped at the end of the movie. Yikes, I digressed a little :-) After I saw the trailer of the movie - Silver Spoon, I began a frantic search for it online. Know why? Wole Ojo! Wole Ojo! Wole Ojo! Okay, so y'all caught the Adesua Etomi bug last year. The first time I saw her act was in 2014 in a movie titled Brave. She acted alongside Wole Ojo. I was actually secretly rooting for a Wole Ojo/Adesua Etomi kinda union. Everytime I saw sugar boy drop sweet comments on Ad...
