DIARIES OF A NEW YORKER 7

One person had been on his mind for days now. Since he saw her about a week ago entering her car and driving off, he hadn't been able to take his mind off Emma Cole. She had stopped paying him attention like she used to. Damn! She looked very beautiful these days. Everything was different about her. From time to time, he caught glimpses of Emma around the office building .  His iPhone beeped.   He had an interview to conduct on the 5 th  floor. Picking up his folder on the table, Koku walked towards the elevator. Her image came into his mind again. What’s wrong with you? Koku said to himself. "Thank you for coming",Koku said to the interviewee. The other interviewers shook hands with Mr Adams. He was a smart and intelligent young financial analyst. Personally, Koku admired people who had their Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification. He knew how much hard work becoming a CFA required. “What to do you think?”, Mrs Sawyerr asked e...

DIARIES OF A NEW YORKER SIX

Emma relieved the events of the seminar she had attended courtesy of IB. It was titled you are single, so what? The event had taken place at the Balmoral Hall in Oregun, Lagos. It had been an unusual event, different from other events she had attended on relationships in the past. Tonight, she felt strengthened and empowered. Sitted on her extra comfy couch, she feasted on french fries ,chicken wings, and a bowl of salad, while watching Days of Our Lives. The soap had gone on for as long as she could remember. She was thankful though, because she really loved the soap opera. She had a bottle of rich wine all to herself. She was in celebration mood. For some reason, she felt elated. Maybe liberated was the word. Liberated from thoughts of self-pity and sorrow. She was ready to embrace the wind and live her life to the full. The speaker at the event had referred to a book written by Michelle Mckinney Hammond. The Ten Mistakes Single Women Make. One of the mistakes single women mak...

A Dash of gratitude

Don’t I just feel like writing tonight? Feels good to know it’s a public holiday in the U.S. tomorrow - Labor Day to be precise. I have been cruising on Facebook. I gaze at my tweeter account once in a while. (Giggling). As summer draws to an end, I feel like it’s been such a long summer. I’m waiting eagerly for fall or autumn. Whichever works for you. I’m extremely thankful for how the year has turned out so far. Though the year started on a very sad note for me, I’m more than thankful right now. I have been held in the strong eternal arms of the big man up there in the clouds. (Another giggle). Count your blessings, name them one by one. Do you have a list of things you are grateful for? Or you wonder what’s there to be grateful for? Things could be much worse than it is right now. To all who are joined to the living, there is hope. Are you disappointed? Get reappointed. Wise words by Joyce Meyer. Are you discouraged? I know someone who encouraged himself in God. Be encou...

Diaries of a New Yorker- Emma's thoughts

Many a cold night                                                    Many a lonely night sitting by the fireplace Sitting, listening to the clock as it ticked Sighing, thinking, and yet arriving at no  answer Life had become pretty much of a routine Dull, boring with no motivation to keep going Sometimes, there was a deep longing to be adventurous  again Adventure Was that the missing link Another deep sigh Maybe you need to get a life, a voice uttered And so the maybes continued to run in her head Truth was, she was tired, weak and worn-out Her mates had become mums And romance lingered in the air all around Where had she missed it Where had she gone wrong Yet she knew that she was desirable Oh well, she slipped under the covers And let her thoughts fade with the sle...

DIARIES OF A NEW YORKER IV

Emma Cole stared at the spreadsheet in front of her. Most of the figures didn’t make much sense to her this morning. At 29 years, she was a chartered accountant who had earned her MBA in Accounting from the prestigious Lagos Business School. She loved her work as senior auditor at Bartels and Gallagher LLC. Life had been very rough growing up as the first child among four children. Her father had walked away while she was in primary school. Eight years old to be precise. Her mother had done the best she could to raise her and her siblings. If they ate two full meals in a day, they danced and sang their praises to God at night. Going to school had been tough and many times they were sent home for not paying their school fees. At first, she would weep from shame when she got home after having being sent home. As time went on, it became a normal part of her life.  The sound of her office door opening jolted her from her thoughts. Hello Missy, Ibinabo walked in smiling. Ibinab...

The Power of loving and forgiving

So you were stabbed hard in the back and your heart is still bleeding. He walked out on you when you needed him the most. Your friend(s) deserted you. You were abandoned by your parents at an early age. The list goes on. Your mother told you it was a mistake to have given birth to you. You were fired from your job unjustly and now all you want to do is get back at the lady or man who landed you in trouble. Life can be unfair. Things happen. The enemy of our soul gives us all good reasons to hate people. Sometimes, we are filled with a burning rage to get back at all those who have hurt us. I have been there before. We have all been there. I’m sorry you had to go through whatever it was that rocked your world. However, today I’ll say, FORGIVE. Can you do yourself that favor? Simply FORGIVE. What does the word forgive mean? It means to grant pardon for or remission of an offence, debt, etc. It means to cease to feel resentment against someone.Let go of all the bitterness, rage, grudge...
