SILVER TOWN

For two weeks, I knew I wanted to do a movie review of Silver Town. However, I just stalled. "I will post on Saturday", I said to myself. Then the next Saturday came and flew by. "I will post", I told myself again. Procrastination isn't worth it. It's a Big thief.

Anyway, on my way from work today, I decided to stop at the grocery store. On getting home, I discovered that my two bunches of spinach was missing in the grocery bag. Apart from the fact that I had lost $4 just like that (Don't laugh). I also felt like I had wasted my time. Driving to the grocery store after work is not one of my favorite things to do. I sulked and questioned how the bunches of spinach went missing. Did I forget it in the grocery cart? How did I manage to do that? I had opted for self service because there was only one cash register with an attendant. Did I forget to bag it? Did the attendant that I saw putting my stuff in the grocery bag take the spinach while I wasn't looking? I had been a bit uncomfortable when I saw her bagging it. My first thought had been why is that lady touching my stuff? Then I realized she worked at the store.

For a few minutes, I thought about all the things that were topsy turvy in my world. "But, it is not that serious". I said to myself. It's only $4. Another part of me said, "It's not about the $4. It's about having to go back to the store for something I had already purchased". Oh boy, how many times do we allow our joy to be stolen? Guard your joy jealously. Life is too short to wallow in negative emotions.

Sorry I just felt like ranting.

So back to the movie review..........

Silver Town

Silver Town was filmed in the UK. Starring Nse Ikpe Etim, Anthony Monjaro and Seun Akindele, the movie tells the story of a Nigerian lady who immigrated to the UK. For some weird reason, I'd avoided watching this particular movie. I just skipped it and moved on to watching other movies online. I really wasn't keen on watching another Nigerian movie which was shot in the UK. Besides, the movie synopsis seemed sad and all I wanted to do was watch an exciting movie.

The story depicts how Sade navigated the waters of being an immigrant in a country in which she had no valid papers. She had moved to the UK using the identity of a dead Nigerian who had lived in the UK. The movie paints a valid picture of some of the hardships of immigrants who find themselves in a foreign country. Sometimes, the grass is not necessarily greener on the other side. We have seen people migrate abroad only to be faced with harsh realities.

There were a couple of new faces in the movie which I thought was a breath of fresh air. Nse 'killed' her role. She basically 'slayed it'  ( By the way these two words- slay and killed are overused words in my opinion. I am happy using them tonight though :-) ) Yes, I mean her acting was great. She immersed herself into the character she played. Anthony Monjaro was phenomenal as always. I was surprised to see Seun Akindele play the villain. He was the definition of bad gang. The lead actors were fabulous and oh one thing to note was I found the movie unpredictable. I couldn't guess what would happen next. I also found it difficult to write a negative review of  this movie. Prepare yourself for a roller coaster of emotions though.

Happy Viewing.....

BIBI - CHAPTER 17

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange was happening to you Several months later….. **** Pere removed his glasses and rubbed his aching eyes. He thought about Nneoma. It had been months since he had seen her. He had reached out to her and tried to see her, but she had refused to pick up his calls. Eventually, she blocked his number, and he saw red. He had had enough. Today, he decided to go to her office to see her. A thousand thoughts crossed his mind. What if she wasn’t at the office? What if she had traveled? “Kade, I’ll see you tomorrow.” He said to their office assistant and headed out. “I’m here to see Ms. Nneoma Odili.” He said to the receptionist. “Is she expecting you?” “No.” He replied curtly. “What is your name?” The lady asked. “Pere is my name.” He answered. “She’s not at her desk.” The receptionist said to him after calling Nneoma's secretary. “Wow! But do you know if she’s in the office today?”

A little Update From Me

Hello there!! Happy New Year!!!  I say Happy New Year because I've been away from this blog for so long. :-(  I can't get past the fact that it was the new year just a few months ago. I remember going to church for the crossover service into the new year. It was my first in-person crossover service in 7 years. If you don't know what a crossover service is, ask any Nigerian. :-) 2023 was a few hours away, and my mind ran over the events in 2022. I thought about my wins, like moving to a new state, settling in, getting a job promotion, etc. I thought about how I got sick and felt like life was leaving me to being well again. People went forward to share their testimonies, and I felt I was supposed to be out there proclaiming God's goodness to me. "I'm sorry, Lord," I muttered. "Thank you for everything." A few hours later, everyone said "Happy New Year" with glee and excitement. "2023... Please be good to me." I th

BIBI - CHAPTER 16

I t was a rainy Monday morning, and Lara was frustrated by all the traffic. That was one thing she missed about London. Fast and reliable transportation that got you where you were going without hassles. She was cranky by the time she arrived at the office that morning. It didn’t also help that she didn’t have a good night’s sleep. She placed her bag under her desk and sighed. Kofo, her admin assistant, walked up to her. “Good morning, madam. Your first meeting with the people from Duchess Group is in forty minutes.” Lara squinted and then nodded. She hadn’t yet turned on her computer. “Thanks, Kofo. Yes, I know.” “Can I get you anything?” “Yes, please. My regular morning fix.” Lara smiled. “Okay, I’ll be right back,” Kofo replied. She liked her new assistant a lot. In the short time since she had known her, Kofo had proven to be reliable. She honestly didn’t know what she would do without her these days. After getting her morning fix, a cup of coffee, and egg sandwiches,
