Why do I start something and never finish it?

I scratch my head even as I type this. Today, I want to address an issue- Starting things and not finishing them. How many of us fall into this category of people who are enthusiastic about beginning a project but somewhere along the line, we go off track? We just lose the passion and the drive which we used to have.  If you fall into this category of people, and you need a way out, I'll be sharing some useful tips here. It’s important to state that being good at starting things is an important skill. However, being good at finishing whatever we start is an even greater skill. While many people come up with great business ideas, few people actually make a business a success. Many people start writing a book but few people end up publishing one. Most individuals have a dream; few fully realize it -Craig Jarrow (Time Management ninja) The question is how do we begin to finish whatever we start? You can make a list of all your uncompleted projects, rev...

DIARIES OF A NEW YORKER 8

I sat at the dining table putting some of the wedding lists together. Planning a Nigerian Wedding was no little task. The halls around Victoria Island were as expensive as hell! Left to me, I’d be cool with a white wedding somewhere in the country side in the U.S. It would be a low key, simple and classy wedding. But trust my family! My parents would hear of no such thing. The first daughter of Toritseju and Tara Ikomi wasn’t going to have no low key wedding. My father didn’t even want to hear about it. The thought was dismissed the first day I laid it on the table. Aunty Sumbo had been livid when she had heard. Aduke, no way!!! You are going to have a huge society wedding and that’s that! My mother had agreed with aunty Sumbo instantly. Aduke Oritsetimeyin Ikomi!!! Aduke oooo!!!! The sound of two ladies screaming my name made me stop what I was doing. It had to be those cousins of mine. Look at you Lape!!!!! I hugged my big cousin. Lape, how did you get so skinny??? O...

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!!!

Thank you the moderator..... First of all, who is a mother? A mother is someone who knows our needs, has a genuine interest in all that we do, and is someone who guides and inspires. She is the captain of the ship which brought us to life. In our society today, we have women of timber and caliber, women of proven integrity, women of enviable repute and status............. My opening paragraph is a recollection of a debate  I participated in when I was 10 years old. I remember how my primary 6 teacher or what you would call grade 6 teacher, Mr Joseph, would write out debates for us, and ask us to go and memorize it. I would stand to rehearse in front of my mother because debates were a big deal for me. At age ten, I watched myself on NTA 2 Channel Five debating. Loool! The years have sure gone by. Anyway, this isn't about me. It's about Mothers! It's Mothers' Day!! A woman is God's last creation. She's meant to be loved, cherished and adored. To al...

DIARIES OF A NEW YORKER 7

One person had been on his mind for days now. Since he saw her about a week ago entering her car and driving off, he hadn't been able to take his mind off Emma Cole. She had stopped paying him attention like she used to. Damn! She looked very beautiful these days. Everything was different about her. From time to time, he caught glimpses of Emma around the office building .  His iPhone beeped.   He had an interview to conduct on the 5 th  floor. Picking up his folder on the table, Koku walked towards the elevator. Her image came into his mind again. What’s wrong with you? Koku said to himself. "Thank you for coming",Koku said to the interviewee. The other interviewers shook hands with Mr Adams. He was a smart and intelligent young financial analyst. Personally, Koku admired people who had their Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification. He knew how much hard work becoming a CFA required. “What to do you think?”, Mrs Sawyerr asked e...

DIARIES OF A NEW YORKER SIX

Emma relieved the events of the seminar she had attended courtesy of IB. It was titled you are single, so what? The event had taken place at the Balmoral Hall in Oregun, Lagos. It had been an unusual event, different from other events she had attended on relationships in the past. Tonight, she felt strengthened and empowered. Sitted on her extra comfy couch, she feasted on french fries ,chicken wings, and a bowl of salad, while watching Days of Our Lives. The soap had gone on for as long as she could remember. She was thankful though, because she really loved the soap opera. She had a bottle of rich wine all to herself. She was in celebration mood. For some reason, she felt elated. Maybe liberated was the word. Liberated from thoughts of self-pity and sorrow. She was ready to embrace the wind and live her life to the full. The speaker at the event had referred to a book written by Michelle Mckinney Hammond. The Ten Mistakes Single Women Make. One of the mistakes single women mak...

A Dash of gratitude

Don’t I just feel like writing tonight? Feels good to know it’s a public holiday in the U.S. tomorrow - Labor Day to be precise. I have been cruising on Facebook. I gaze at my tweeter account once in a while. (Giggling). As summer draws to an end, I feel like it’s been such a long summer. I’m waiting eagerly for fall or autumn. Whichever works for you. I’m extremely thankful for how the year has turned out so far. Though the year started on a very sad note for me, I’m more than thankful right now. I have been held in the strong eternal arms of the big man up there in the clouds. (Another giggle). Count your blessings, name them one by one. Do you have a list of things you are grateful for? Or you wonder what’s there to be grateful for? Things could be much worse than it is right now. To all who are joined to the living, there is hope. Are you disappointed? Get reappointed. Wise words by Joyce Meyer. Are you discouraged? I know someone who encouraged himself in God. Be encou...
